Realtor Bashing

That would be me, unless we were in Germany, then it would be Joker.

Sorry, couldn't be helped.

FTR - There are many agents who treat the term Realtor in a similar manner as Kleenex or Xerox (though that one is about gone, I think). As long as some agents say Realtor in a manner that covers all agents, non-agents are going to continue to do the same thing. And, along with that, will come the pet names.

Of course, no agents (Realtors or not) use deragatory names for appraisers. I'm sure it never happens.

I may be the one who is guilty of "realtard" in its most recent incarnation. As that instigator, I was referring to a frustrating situation with one particular real estate un-professional. In no way was I indicting the entire population of real estate sales people. It was just a contraction of realtor and retard. That it would become that popular --- who knew?

I have been a real estate salesperson and a realtor and eventually came back to RE as an appraiser trainee. My mentor had a similar background so we always marketed ourselves as "realtor-friendly" appraisers. This did not mean that we always made them happy, just that we empathized with what they go through and that we felt it unfortunate that so many RE agents and appraisers felt there was an inherent adversarial relationship between the two.

So relax, Francis. It was a joke. And you know what they say about those who can't take a joke. :new_all_coholic:

I guess I should have not called the thread Realtor Bashing. We all criticize each other.

But the term Realtard is just out and out offensive to me.

Guess I'm just getting old, I would never use that term or call someone a "retard".

Because she had so little, I only have a few items that belonged to my mother who passed away in 1998. One is her BofA ATM card. I'm sentimental about that because we helped her with banking for a long time. She was afraid to use it because it was kind of a new concept and she didn't really understand how it worked. So I kept it in my wallet for her and it's still there. I also have a cheap Santa Claus wind up musical toy.

And I have her Realtor pin she got back in the 60's. She was very proud of it even though she never did any real estate work after about 1969 or so.

I must be getting old, too.

I am also extremely disappointed.

When I saw the title of this thread, I expected to see a place and time...

No, no...I'll be fine...

But don't play with my emotions like this anymore.

If you are going to promise a realtor bashing, you should deliver.:nono:

Yeah, I'm still taking hits from the What are you packing? thread. :new_smile-l:

TC,

I missed that. What are you packing? LOL

In polite company, I wouldn't call anyone a "retard" either, but then....this is the Appraiser's Forum. :rof:

Supposedly, we're a band of rugged individualists. We believe in a Bill of Rights, not one of which is "The Right to Not Be Offended." Suck it up. :fiddle:

I've been offended for years by real estate sales people (good Gawd -- can't we please just say "realtor" for short --- we know what it means (and sometimes what it doesn't)) and mortgage brokers who push, plead, pilfer and punish if they don't get their way. They don't give a rat's left gonad if I'm offended. m2:

I think knowing that they are not automatically one and the same earns the right to use the term "realtard" in jest. I support having all CE courses begins with a 5 minute session defining, appraiser, realty agent and Realtor. The problem is the CE instructors will need to take a course because many of them are the worst at mangling the terms.

That's really sweet, Greg :Emoticon_hug:
