Restaurant Reset

After drinking truck stop (recipe: half bad coffee and half used motor oil) and c-store coffee for a couple of decades, anything "served" is edible. But those were $.50 per cup...%7.50 per cup tastes worse than the motoroil.

Haven't gone out at this local restaurant (with immigrant workers) for awhile, yesterday my family went out to eat and saw the entree prices went up from last year. That's how it is with inflation.
It's expensive to eat out now.

I think George has the right idea for these times. Some restaurant friends of ours in Milwaukee recently did exactly that: rented out chunks of their "A" grade kitchen to cooking businesses who have limited menus, and then have delivery to their customers, especially businesses during the day. That really cuts down on staff that spend time standing around between 'rush' periods. In LA, the legit food trucks are required to cook at similar dispensaries/kitchens.

My hubby is a chef, so I'm rather spoiled, and I speculated that many families don't cook at home... but comments here make sense in that ppl had to learn to cook during Covid or they'd starve. They closed the restaurant my husband worked at during that time, and operated a food truck to do business catering until things turned around, but they never called him back to work... :( Virtually ALL the old staff was replaced. I was seriously considering starting a food truck during that time for him and my stepson to run, but that didn't materialize. I did notice another of our friends who did exactly that has disappeared along with her food truck. I dunno... I understand many food trucks are robbed, and others have signage that they only accept cr/dr cds, no cash. Criminals are everywhere.

Criminals are everywhere in California.

Fixed that for you.

I love Cali - can't beat the climate and vibe, but the state encourages crime - practically subsidies it.

Coffee snob here. Won't buy it at a starbucks tho. Have espresso machine. Have an insulated travel mug filled with 6 espresso shots in front of me right now. Will probly last hot until about noon.
We have a market out near me that has an entire aisle with coffees from all over the world. Been trying different ones every other week. Some are definitely better than others.

Was it food costs? Or, mandated minimum wage hikes in your state. We're seeing prices that have not changed much in the past 2 years. They jumped during the Covid shutdowns then leveled off. But many cafes went under by that time.

Food costs went up. Either higher labor costs in agriculture or/and tariffs.
Minimum wages went up too in CA except the immigrant workers I saw in the restaurant may be paid less. I find them great workers in giving above average service in general.
