Retaining wall railing?

Am I the only one who gets confused when appraisers talk about requiring existing homes be compliant to building code? It’s my understanding these building code requirements basically only apply to new constructions or when there’s a change in use. Aren’t existing structures grandfathered in? Are you applying all of the current version of the building code (IRC) to this 1940-50s ranch home, such as those for building materials, fire protection, interior finishes, etc.?

Agree, Code changes are to meet current standard (moving target) and to address the "wall issue", IMO- I would reference an Insurance Company for their "typical practice." as it would appear to be a Liability Issue. Then again, an umbrella policy would provide a possible solution.
In some area's building codes did not come into play until after the 1900 + and were under constant change over time. (a living document/law as it may be).

One time I was trying to measure the porch and I leaned against the railing and the railing bended and I was fortunate to have a big bush to break my fall.
Dude, this is like the third thread I've read where you've fallen. You might want to have that checked out. You have some sort of equilibrium issue going on....

Few days ago I got this serious deep tissue message. It was so painful. I told him about the cracking right shoulder and my pain on my right leg.
Painful massage was like 9 in scale of 1-10. I have bruises near my front chest shoulder.
Massage guy told me to see a chiropractor for my cracking bone.
 
VA St Paul just replied. They never answer anything directly.

“IF you feel that there should be railings placed for safety, call for that repair. If the veteran wants to come in for a waiver to VA to waive the repair, we can look at it for him/her.”
Lol, take that, Zoe! All I knew is I never got called for a final on mine. Fine by me!

I knew what they would say on anything safety related. I knew they would not care who it upset. Code enforcement would say amen. :):)

Now, finish and get paid.:)

VA will be happy. You can be happy..

They will get it done. Not a biggie when you look at big picture. You did your job. Sleep well.

Don't tell me tidewater is next. When it rains it pours sometimes. LOL

Your veteran will be proud of you. Trust me.

Your bonus is subject will be more marketable and safe.

I think the railing will make street appeal way better from a potential buyer.
 
I think money spent will be more than recovered when subject sold.
 
Call real estate agent and see if they have a problem. Call veteran. LOL

The veteran will say you are right. The real estate agent won't argue.

VA won't argue. Code enforcement won't argue.

Home free.
