I must say that I am surprised by the responses this received. Here I thought my Mom and I were the minority. We always take her choc. lab with, and my choc. puppy if nobody else is home, or she is not at doggy day care (two days per week). It is getting tough though, two dogs and two appriasers in a regular cab truck makes for a cozy ride! A really good reason to get a new truck!!!

fyi- that is my puppy shredding t.p. in my avatar :)

Jasper goes where I go ... period .... I have 2 oscillating 12v fans in the camper, just over the sliding windows to create a cyclonic wind stream around him in the summer time, and cold doesn't bother him a bit. On REO's, HE goes in first and let's me know if it is OK for me to enter. My daughter often goes with me too. She just said this evening that she "Likes going to work with Daddy" .... and she is good help. She often keeps homeowners occupied with conversation, or she helps me by holding a target for my Disto, or taking photos outside for me ....

Any company that hires me to appraise a home for them is subject to my work schedule, ethics and methods, and Jasper goes where I go, and so does Cat when she is with me. I have honestly never seen any company state that animals or children can't be in the car ... that is asinine and ridiculous ... What color underwear am I allowed to wear? Boxers or briefs? Should my socks match my shirt or my pants? If they wish to micromanage, then they can refer to me as "Employee" and I want my benefits ...

Before you think I am closed minded, I often ask the homeowner if they mind if I bring my dog or my daughter, or both with me and have NEVER been told no or would I mind not bringing them, or that they would prefer that I didn't bring them ... again, I guess Southerner's are a little more accommodating about such things ... Jasper has played with everything from Pit bulls and Jack Russell's ... and Cat has played with a homeowners kids and even been invited back for a birthday party a few weeks later because they hit it off so well ... and Jasper has been asked to sire a few litters of pups .... and so far, all I have gotten is a check and PIA from a few LO's ....

We formerly lived in a community and were "robbed" several times - i.e., door open, Golden Retriever happily bouncing around the neighborhood, but nothing taken - probably kids. Police said to get a German Shepard. Did so and never another problem. I would advise girls to bring along a large dog that is known to be fierce on occasion or very protective and you will likely not have any problems out in the field.

Lily goes with me on some REOs in the hood etc. Also take her on Home Inspections sometimes and let her go into the crawlspace before I do, after I had a rude meeting with a cat under a house once....

My 3 are not licensed assistants - they have no business on someone elses property, are not covered under my E&O, were not hired by my clients to "sniff out potentially harmful environmental substances or conditions", don't do well in 120 degree temps in summer, and do not enhance the customer or the clients' perception of professionalism. Other than on an appraisal - absolutely - they're my other kids, where I go - they go.

freak dogs with no discipline
Tick's pretty well behaved and is fond of ice cream too...

Mike, kinda with you. I don't think it is very professional to take your dog, especially if its hot and you let them out...

My 100+ Pound black goes with me when weather permits.....I do a considerable amount of rural and outlying area work, so I have set places that we stop and play at...He will lick my ear as we get close to turn offs just so I do not for get to stop. Yesterday we walk a vacant 35 Acre parcel.....he loves those orders...though those stop when the snakes come out. I do not take him in houses, and do not let him out unless home owners invite him.

First of all I have 14 dogs - 12 St. Bernards, 1 Boston and 1 Minie Aussie. The St. Bernards go only when they are puppies. The Boston goes often and rides with me to the appointments. The Aussie is 12 years old and completely blind and I cannot let her run, so she is home inside most of the time. (yesterday, when she walked out to do her business, she fell of the bridge over the pond and got rather wet, so we can no longer let her run loose).

Nothing however is a nice as a wet lick from a St Bernard, or trying to decipher printing after the drool is all over it. (an acquired liking at best).

Two of you have Jack Russels??....hyper, freak dogs with no discipline. They have a mind of their own. How do I know? My wife bought one as a "present" for my lab/greyhound mix so she would "have a friend". Worthless ankle-biter.

I do take the lab/greyhound on day trips, not overnight and she loves it and I like the company. A dog is still man's best friend, excluding Jack Russell's and anything bred with a poodle.

They are indeed highy energy. We live on a farm so he runs around with the other dogs all day when we are not on the road. So when he is inside the house or on the road with us, he is calm. We also managed to train him not to eat chickens anymore.

So I guess it depends on the circumstances. I could not imagine having a Jack Russell if he had to stay home alone all day. I would not have one, or any dog, under those circumstances.

Thank you, T .... he likes you too!

Now that none of our vehicles have airconditioning  Tick stays home during hot days. But when he is with us, we never let him out on the "job site".

As far as "sniffing" out suspect situations goes, I would hate to have something happen to Tick. I bring Greg for protection :leeann2:
