What's ironic is complaining about the Russians having the capacity and intent to purchase adspace on social media to sway elections whilst ignoring the exponentially higher degree of direct control over those social media outlets that their owners and employees wield.

If the best way to rob a bank is to buy one, then the best way to manipulate what people can see or find on a social media platform is to own and/or program that outlet to conform to your politics.

Apparently finding paranoid ramblings on the internet isn't that difficult. We have sufficient proof here.

So it's not paranoid to fret over whatever the Russians can do as a (tiny) adbuyer on social media outlets but it is paranoid to fret over what social media outlets can do on their own WRT their own political biases?

Fox News can't hold a candle to what Youtube and Twitter and others can do WRT what their users can see, what they can find, and what they can discuss. Their only limitation is their own self-restraint.

I agree we should be concerned about the 4Chans and 8Chans of the world. I would have to agree. Unfortunately the attacks on legitimate sources funnel people to such "fictional" sites whose sole purpose is to spread distortions, lies, and hate.

As an appraiser I'm sure you understand - and agree - that the primary attribute that distinguishes our work from similar work that other parties perform are our assertions of impartiality and objectivity. Not our technical competency per se. Everyone and their dog has a valuation opinion, there's nothing special about that. Our credibility for adherence to our ethical standards is the only thing that makes our work any more marketable than the average CMA as performed by the local broker.

Right now we're taking a beating in the market due in part to the perception that we're not doing what we say we're doing. That's entirely our own fault as a group - we're doing that to ourselves and there is no excuse for that. However and in counterpoint, the individual always wields sole control over their own actions and the reputation for credibility - or the lack thereof - which ensues. Ain't no appraiser any better than their most recent assignment.

Journalists (unlike politicians and RE Brokers) have the same challenge. It takes a lot of self-restraint and pro-active effort to avoid even the appearance of bias; and it only takes one example of getting caught lying to undo a career. Ain't no journalist who's any better than their most recent assignment, either.

So when CNN or Fox gets caught lying or putting their thumb on objectivity scale they undermine their own legitimacy. For which I have zero sympathy. These "legitimate" outlets aren't entitled to any advantage in credibility except to the extent to which they prove themselves in every piece they run. Same as any appraiser.

As is also the case with a social media outlet. If they're going to engage in editing beyond the most basic limitations of criminal conduct then their credibility can never be assumed, but must be earned.

The party line is that all people are created equal and are all equal under the law-that there is still endemic racism prevalent in the U.S. as evidenced by the increased notoriety of White Supremacist organizations and a plethora of recent events--been here since the founding of the country.

Certainly social justice for all people is not a "new" line. It may be to some but for the vast majority of us, it has always been the party line.

Certainly that "party line" (would more likely be labeled the "human line") is not something that should be mocked. But then...............................................................

My position is Politicians and Citizens who talk Social Justice need to live and work in their communities or shut-up.. Thinking... Thinking... Thinking... Gee I can't think of one social justice warrior who holds office who actually lives in their constituents neighborhood.

Social justice is a human issue. Saying that basic social justice should vary by community is saying that social justice is meaningless.
