Walked away mid-inspection/vent

I make it a habit of always inspecting and measuring the exterior of singles and multi's first. Its just the way I do business. I want to make sure my floor plan is spot, note possible settlement areas once inside when observed on the exterior, division of units when its a multi and be able to ask questions about improvements when speaking with the home owner.

Today half way through the exterior inspection, the wife comes out and asks that I come inside and do the interior first. I explained that I need to finish taking measurements due to the number of jogs and cantilevers and that I would be another 10 minutes. She said "but cant you just do it after". I explained again that I could not. Then she says "but you're taking too long and we want to put the baby to sleep". The husband comes out and says "didn't the bank already give you a floor plan? don't you already have it". After being barraged by the wife and approached by the husband, followed by a short pause so I didn't misspeak, I answer him "no". He then actually mocks me in a condescending voice and asked if I "have a problem"! I couldn't believe it. At that point, I could only cancel the inspection and tell them they would receive a call from another appraiser. She even asked that I just continue. Unreal.

Good for you!!!!!:rof:

I usually find the rooms on the inside:icon_mrgreen: Pays to open all doors and look inside.

I always remember that for one to do what I do, open all doors, look inside closets, bathrooms, and all other rooms, and take as many photos as I want.......usually requires a warrant. I think a little courtesy is a good offset.

So you've never come across houses where there is a large dead space that takes up enough GLA to be reportable?

Look, I'm only in this thread because it's fun to argue over dumb things. But I'm set in my ways and I: Pull up to the house and get out of the car; Stand in the street and take a picture then turn around and take a picture the other way; take front photos from angles; knock on the door and introduce myself and tell them what I'm going to do - measure the outside and take pictures then I'll come back to the front door and knock; once inside I always start the interior sketching from the front door and work my way back; once I'm done with the sketch I go around the inside again taking pictures.

I get grumpy when the occupant wants me to do it their way but sometimes I give in.

What's the problem? :Emoticon_hug:

The only way is my way.:icon_mrgreen:

This song and dance has a familiar ring to it, Pete & Repeat tag teaming with the same petty insults. I suppose next we'll have an entrance from the head Z man who will submit that if the appraiser had a zone the nursery room would have been Geo scored and there would have been no room for an interior inspection.

Boy, talk about something having a familiar ring, Mr. One Note! Continue on in your surly ways; I'm sure it works for you.

Any level of obsessive compulsiveness does not reflect poorly on my work nor my relationship with clients. Rather your attempt at humor at the expense of autism reflects poorly on your character.

I agree with you here MRB..as the father of an Autistic son. Well said.

I am just getting around to reading other posts.
Hidden rooms?? Was this Al Capones house? I have seen so many odd houses with strange floor plans and yes one with some "hidden" rooms in Chicago. Thing is just open every door there is and there will never be a hidden room again. I dont understand how you would find a hidden room from outside?! Hidden rooms mean you did not open every door. recently in a rush I just peeked into the small 1/2 bath on the first floor. When I got home, I noticed the very old listing showed only full baths no 1/2 baths. In my picture behind the door was a shower. I was careless and almost made it 3 1/2 baths instead of 4 full. I am not saying I have never missed anything. I actually "found" a bedroom the owner forgot was there (not kidding).

Exactly... what is w/ the hidden rooms?

I can't believe this thread has reached 159 posts.
