Who's Quitting?

I can't afford to quit but i did go back to school since I can't be financially secure in this profession.

why quit, where else can you get this selective type of abuse and get paid for it ?

at my age, am not going back to school; I don't work or play well with others and ifn I did go to work for someone else after the past 30+ years of doing my onw thing, I don't think I would last a Full Week.

a man's got ta know his limitations; if I did quit - I'd have to try playing poker for a bit, just as much punishmint and be basically just working with different a$$holes......LOL

After 12+ years, I am afraid that my education in Computer Science is no longer valid; however, I am debating if I should go back to school or not. I am not quitting, just debating my options.

I am old enough now to where I can sign up for Social Security in October. I intend to supplement my SS income with my appraising income, or visa versa. I only do full fee work and no reviews, REO, ERC work.

If residential appraising comes back and the pay is good, I will do more. If it gets too high of an income, I can always cut back or stop SS.

The fundimentals do not suggest that appraisal is a good business to get into, let alone stay in.

I am actively looking at other alternatives.

I agree with all of the above. Looking at alternatives, intend to keep doing appraisals, but see the writing on the wall. Long term, I don't see a future in this business. To me it seems it might keep me even, but to get ahead, this business is a dead end. I come from an advertising background. The current situation reminds me of the mid 80's when typesetting was a going concern. Had been a staple in the print/advertising business for a lifetime. Then along came personal computers, then desk top publishing and the typesetting business evaporated in about two years. Graphic designers evolved into typesetters and next went color separation companies, etc. etc. 100 years of traditional approach in print/advertising was gone in a couple of years thanks to computers. We are looking at the same scenario. The banking industry wants to kiss us all good bye and rely on computers and a database.
