This line from the article caught my eye. What did 950 firefighters do to be incarcerated

Nearly 950 incarcerated firefighters were dispatched “to cut fire lines and remove fuel to slow fire spread,” according to an update from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

I'm pretty sure they meant "prisoners" instead of "firefighters". Probably someone using an "AI assistant" to write articles.

5 of them could hold up their end with a physically resistant arrestee.

Someone hopped up on drugs is difficult for most men to handle let alone woman. Saw a video where two women simply could not handle a tanked up druggie.

Standards I heard are the same but who knows-

not all critical tasks in law enforcement or the military are load carrying or physical - for those MOS or work where it is critical, one standard IMO

Men have a natural advantage with carrying strength, whereas women may have other advantages such as social skills for spy work, undercover, intel, diffusing situations etc - what if a min standard test test were applied for that skill and men, who might be at a natural disadvantage, fail it at higher numbers and are barred from service - would you be okay with that?

Most male officers who use excessive force or make terrible decisions or are cowards or corrupt, and all of it costs lives and their departments hundreds of millions in damages and suits -g.

Women are better at some tasks than men. But before you go extolling the virtues of being sensitive, nurturing and caring with assholes you might consider how successful that play is when someone's blood is up or when they're drunk of high. I don't know if you ever raised teenagers but most parents will know from personal experience that trying to talk someone sense and maintain low tones with someone who is emotionally out of control is basically impossible. Cops not only run into "emotionally out of control" all the time but they do not have an unlimited amount of time to waste on an impossible task. Calls are stacking up while this person is raging and those calls require attention, too.

As for testing and standards that's probably fine for certain non-physical attributes but the hands-on thing becomes a matter of survival, and if you don't believe me then just pick a fight with a guy your own age and see what happens.

Moreover, it isn't just what a person is capable of doing, but also what they can convey through their non-verbals of those capabilities. The markings on the car, the uniform, the stature and posture, the assertiveness (not to be confused with that passive/aggressive thing), these are all part of the use of force continuum. People working in plain clothes are at the physical disadvantage there; that's an aspect you never considered but which will make sense if you take a minute to do so. One reason we don't send social workers to "out-of-control" calls by themselves is because they can't defend themselves. Which most female cops also can't defend themselves on their own.


I guarantee that a 2-week ride-along in a busy town with competent cops would change many aspects of your worldview quite a bit.

Just using it for debate sake - some females are as aggressive and tough as need be, comes more naturally to more men ....there are e studies wrt law enforcement were certain situations can be defused, but yes it is primarily about protection and when needed force , in that realm one can either perform or not on the job.

Mouthing off is aggressive. There isn't anything special about that, any 16yr old can do it . Being assertive is a whole different beast and doing so effectively can often prevent any further escalation. Less is often more. "Extra" is almost always a problem except sometimes when we're at gunpoint. I pointed my 1911 at people on almost a weekly basis and it wasn't out of cowardice. I can't tell you how many people there are who will refuse to comply even when the cops are pointing guns at them.

But hey, their families usually say he was a good guy and was just getting his life back together and preparing to go to computer school next semester.
