The petition

and many before me have stated it too many time to count, Keep it simple, keep it objective. We will sign if it if it follows these simple rules. As it is, it is an attack. Attacks don't work.

Then FIX it Kevin ! Don't complain about it - my petition is not what is whining, YOU are whining, and YOUR whining is becoming far more redundant than my redundant repetitive petition that goes on and on and on and on.

Who is whining here ??? Kevin's advice hit it square on the head. As written the petition could just demonstrate why they need to eliminate us with something more objective, such as the dreaded AVM's.

Square on the head - say WHAT?
You too TJ - Then FIX it - get off your lazy... copy and paste and type - fix it; if you can, if you dare. I am overburdened by generalilities w/o specificity. I am not suceeding in reading your minds; that is beyond my scope of capability.

To be honest, I think a petition is a waste of time, but that is just my opinion. Based on the news and what is going on now, I think the investors will demand better appraisal products. The investors have lost billions by purchasing these shaky loans. Most of the blame can go to the loan products, but bad appraisals were part of the mix. These investors are seeing the bank owned AMC's are not the "firewall" that they were advertised to be. Forget legislation, forget petitions, unions, you name it, they won't address the real issues.

The real answer is to create an alternative business model that these investors will soon be craving for. We all have a couple good clients locally, but that is not good enough any longer. We need to find a way to band together the good appraisers out there as a national presence and market ourselves as delivering good quality appraisal work. If they are looking for speed or number hitters, look elsewhere, that would not be the clients we could market to. Yes, it would start out slow, but if the investor side of the industry knew this alternative was out there, they might just put enough pressure on the banks and lenders to start seeking a quality appraisal product.

Just my three cents. Instead of being victims, blaming the AMC's and Skippy for everything, lets find a way to be proactive an offer the industry something better !!!

I anxiously await your new business model

More generalities - copy it, paste it to YOUR MS word, and write YOUR rendition - your advise is augmenting the confusion - SPECIFICITY please.

If you think 75% of it should be deleted, then hold your finger on the delete key for as long as you like.

I would focus on the lack of a firewall between lenders and appraisers when the lender owns an AMC. If you can make a convincing argument that lender owned AMCs have an interest in the outcome, you take away a primary reason that AMCs exist.

Congress is not going to care about appraiser's fees, approved lists, etc., so don't muddy the water with those items.

That being said.............

You really have some balls to make these comments. You wrote a poorly written petition so don't lash out at anyone else. The fact is that after 3,470 views in this thread you have 25 signatures. No one has any obligation to help to write a better one. It is not because we are lazy or because no one "dares" to try to write a better one, but because you do not listen to what other people have to say. Since the petition has received such underwhelming support, it might be a good idea to step back and calm down for a change.

Sorry mods but sometimes it needs to be said. Erase this post if it is inappropriate.

TJSum, you have a great idea to band together. Even if you don't agree with the petition as being worthwhile , it would be a good start to work together on this and other projects that could change the direction of the industry for the better. I've worked on past projects I haven't necessarily agreed with, however, realizing they were a start to a change. Lets keep this and other ideas rolling in as this is a good way to sort out thoughts and hopefully come to some conclusions. Perhaps there may be other alternatives in addition to petitions. This is only the start and support is key to success.
I'll look forward to reading more of your ideas.

My point is I think we should be using all these excellent minds to come up with the alternative, to show the industry how it should work. We keep sitting back as victims waiting for the industry to change for us, lets lead them to it !!! I don't have the perfect business model to offer up for tweaks here and there, I am just hoping all the energy we use complaining could be put to good use coming up with a national alterative for those seeking good honest appraisal reports.

I thought the date was 1/03/2008 for the signing start of the petition. You may be surprised at the amount of appraisers that will sign.

There are maybe five or six people here against this petition. I know for a fact that there are many people that do not post their opinion on here out of fear.

What on this earth would make any appraiser not want to see crooked AMC's go down? Oh, let me guess...the ones that want to see as many appraisers as possible get out of the business?

I quit appraising last month. I have no real interest in saving a bunch of people that are not interested in saving themselves. The only problem is, I still follow this crap and I guess I would treat this like a passerby that happens upon a traffic accident. I would want to help.

If you have any positive insight, now is the time. I do not see a "whiney tone" in this petition, I see someone trying to reach out and help someone. It's a hell of a lot more than I've seen from the majority of appraisers.

Let the attacks begin.......
