Just my opinion, but a petition only works when it is very basic and tackles one specific topic. Your petition is about AMCs, but is all over the place. When you ask people to sign something with as many bullet points as you have, you limit the number of people that agree 100% with the writer. I am sure that others are like me and will only sign a petition that they agree with in its entirety.

As stated by others, there are several points in the petition that people disagree on a fundamental level. There is no amount of rewording that can change that. If you want a larger number of signatures, I would recommend eliminating those areas. Tackle the points that a majority of people can agree upon.

In full disclosure, I am one of the people who differ with many of the points on a fundamental level. Unless 75% of the petition is eliminated, I would not be able to sign. So ignore my advice if you want because I might not be your target audience. But either way, I wish you the best of luck.

Kudos to KRB52 for the great thoughts. This is a perfect example of somebody who has offered some super tips even though they do not want to sign. I don't believe the author will ignore any posts written in this positive way.
Lets keep this going. It's important and every appraiser should get involved at some level.

I am adding mold and water testing to my Home Inspection offerings, and have seen a 200-400% increase in radon testing requests since the state of NC added certain language to the NC Realtors typical RE contract, not to mention the option 1/option 2 inspection requirements etc. effect on my HI biz. Barking dogs are let inside.:)

Not sure what that means, and anyone who would speculate on it would be foolish, but yesterday there was 2200 views, and today there are over 3000, and yet there are only about 5-7 people posting here. I wonder who the other 2000+/- are?

Also, let me make a few things clear here for all:

1. I did not author this petition. I offered a lot of edits, but I did not edit Craig's thought content in preference for my own.

2. I have only been acquainted with Craig for about a week, and I am not here to say that what we have is gold, I just did what Craig came here asking for...comments, suggestions, etc...

3. If you are going to say that you don't like the tone, as it is too whiney, then offer the fix.

4. It has become clear to me that at least one of you haven't even read the re-write, but you are posting about its contents. That is not very proffessional of anyone.

5. If all you have are adjectives, and no verbs...please stop posting.

That means get off your *** and make it better if you think it can be. But if you have no solutions, you really should keep the complaints to a minimum.

Notice, I am not arguing for the merits of this petition. I asked Craig to leave certain things out too. He said no. But I am not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I was confident that the Forum would be able to CONVINCE him with the thoughtful argument that is prevalent and sought after on this forum. I haven't seen much thoughtful argument...just a lot of "it won't work" "I don't like it" or I don't agree with enough to sign it"

What I don't see alot of is:

Hey, if you deleted point #4, that would be a good start...or ....hey, change the wording about mandating pay in advance...or something like that....

Where are those kinds of posts?

Look at George Hatch's posts if you need a template for how to offer thoughtful argument.

Anyway, I am hoping that you guys will help him make a winner here.

If there is no winner at all to be made, say so... But if you know a way to make it better....PLEASE let Craig know.

Sorry for the rant. And don't confuse any of this as trying to distance myself from the petition...when it is finally ready, I think it will be signable.

I'll presume you mean me when referring to the unprofessional one, since I commented on not re-reading. I re-read it today, before my first post. I was referring to not re-reading it for more particulars in that reply. Hence the (again) after it. So, whether or not it is clear to you, you are not correct.

What I find interesting is the constant "if you don't like it, offer changes" comments coming from the two of you. Personally, I started out by commenting on the "actual client" content and the "lenders lists" content. Neither one is something I agree with and as long as it is part of your petition, I won't sign. That is, IMO, likely true for many people. Then, when asked again to give input if I was going to say anything, I pointed them out again. There is no cosmetic fix for those issues, and a re-write of them won't do anything. Those are huge issues to me.

Additionally, several people have offered comments that should have been taken as input.

You guys do deserve credit for trying. The advice to take a look at the petition on this site is good.

More generalities - copy it, paste it to YOUR MS word, and write YOUR rendition - your advise is augmenting the confusion - SPECIFICITY please.

If you think 75% of it should be deleted, then hold your finger on the delete key for as long as you like.

Stone, I think you may be on to something that might be widespread so far as others who may not sign for the same reason. I urge you to put your ideas or versions in a Word Doc and send them to the author. The latest dialog on this whole thing has really changed for the better tonight which has inspired me to respond to what I've been reading. Great work people!!!!!

Craig:

You never answered my question from many posts ago. You don't want bank owned, affiliated or contracted appraisal management companies..... so, exactly how do you think a bank should order an appraisal?

I reiterate.

and many before me have stated it too many time to count, Keep it simple, keep it objective. We will sign if it if it follows these simple rules. As it is, it is an attack. Attacks don't work.
