Corelogic Just Acquired Alamode

sounds like someone is not confident in their abilities to perform as an appropriate and are afraid of client exposure to other appraisers...

Right. I'm sure when someone calls you inquiring about your service, before you end the call, you give them a few names of other appraisers in the area. Because you're so confident. I think trying to protect your client relationships just makes good business sense.

This business was about relationships. I'm guessing you came in in the 2000's. Back when you just needed a pulse. You were thrust into the position of "business owner" by sheer luck. I didn't expect you to wrap your head around the concept.

If you do mortgage appraisals, I wonder how your client would feel if you handed their borrower a business card for another lender during the inspection. Or better yet, one of those rate shopping sites. If you did, and they called you on it, would you just say..."what's wrong?...aren't you confident that you can keep the loan?"

Alamode decided that in spite of the relationship I had with them, in spite of the number of cars I've personally bought for Dave Biggers, that it was up to them to "distribute the wealth". To offer MY CLIENT services from my competition after decades of business...10's of thousands of dollars. This isn't facebook or google. I paid good money to this company.

I have nothing against the marketplace, other appraisers or competition. I just don't want MY vendor undermining my business.

Confidence...uninformed and small-minded remark.

And for all who are about to jump on me again for attacking someone, just don't. Read my post Tres commented on and then their response. They drew first blood.

Was pretty sure that concern for another might not resonate with you! :eyecrazy::shrug:

Right...you have a human shield... it must be nice.

By the way, emojis are for girls and children. When you're done taking selfies, grow up.

AppraiserFest lists the following sponsors:

To the extent these functions were performed they used to be performed by people who relied on that work to make a living for themselves, so there's a tremendous lack of self-awareness involved when we bemoan the advances that (teckNUHludgy) has wrought in one breath and then sell more of it in the next.

It would be unethical and perhaps illegal to discriminate. Right?
Or, are you recommending that happen?

I'm not suggesting that at all. All I'm saying is that if appraisers have historically taken advantage of technology to leverage their skills - for profit or gain - in their own businesses that it then becomes unreasonable to chip on the suits for doing the same thing.

The only way the talking point holds up is if someone actually thinks their clients owe them something, or that they are entitled to certain protections from the ravages of commerce.

I agree George. That point is valid and well expressed.

When management companies started to become prevalent, I thought of them as competition. In fact, I had a lot of respect for them. They saw an opportunity in the marketplace and capitalized. In fact, a lot of appraisers with good size companies actually started management companies. I had admiration for them as well. They're all players in the game that we play.

But I had a real problem with alamode throwing their hat into that arena. It's a conflict of interest and a violation of trust that undermines our relationship as vender / customer.

Maybe this analogy will help. Imagine you suspect your wife is cheating on you. So you come home early one day to try and catch her. You come in the house, open the bedroom door....and Dave Biggers is wearing your pajamas.

Keep making it perfectly clear what kind of person you are. You are pretty amusing although not intentionally.

The fest should dump alamode if they want cred.
The cred is in the speakers and the fact that 3 appraisers went off on their own and created an event for appraisers with no BS and no corporate propaganda. We always said anyone could sponsor the event. Would you feel this same way if we had Marshall swift? Or if some AMCs sponsored? None of them are speakers or have a platform. This is OUR PLATFORM. We will deal with core logic as we see fit to based upon all the details. As stated earlier this is what appraisers wanted and everyone cheered that we got them. Our cred is based off the entire event and not beholden to one sponsor.

I agree with you.
It would be silly (IMO) to tell Corelogic to keep their sponsorship money at this stage of the game.
Indeed, it would be better for them (via ala mode) to show up and hear first hand the feedback/concerns that attendees have. And if they are willing to pay for that earful, all the better.
