Data Cancer found....

If I was reviewing someone's appraisal report offline and I had a question I'd keep it offline and make a phone call. But by the time someone is writing articles or participating on a forum or producing podcasts and putting themselves and their work out there that becomes fair use for additional discussion. As was the OPs intent when they posted this podcast at the outset of this thread.

I've said this before in this thread, if I had agreed with everything or almost everything in the situation I'd have said so. If I had found more supporting info than reported I would have added it. If I had spotted a minor deviation that was of little or no effect on the outcome I would have framed it that way as being inconsequential. Exactly the same as if I was reviewing an appraisal report for a client in my day job.

Nobody gets a pass on this forum just because they're an appraiser. If I say something dumb here then I get scorched for it, same as everyone else. Nobody here agrees with me all the time and sometimes I hold the minority opinion of one. This forum is the Serengeti for these ideas and concepts, not an emotional support group. There ain't no drum circle or secret decoder rings involved.

Doesn't take but a few minutes on Google to find out that info

Doxing someone's personal information, including their address, even if it's publicly available in records, is generally considered unethical and potentially illegal depending on the context and jurisdiction.

The guy said the house in question is a few down the street from his, and he uses his real name in a public podcast. He (willingly) "doxxed" himself.

"Doxxing" is not used in the context you are using here - it generally means trying to do someone harm by sending rent-a-mobs - or SWAT teams under fake calls to their home. None of that applies here.

yet that's exactly what those trolls at appraisersblogs do - and you eat that stuff up like candy.

Ah, if you don’t like the content posted on Appraisers’ blogs, the solution is simple: just don’t visit the site or read the articles. :giggle:

Phil never mentioned the address or the property in question on his show—in fact, he purposely withheld that information. Someone, however, went searching for it. Whether it was done maliciously or not is beside the point. The fact remains that the damage has already been done.

Can someone explain how calling other members 'idiots' and 'liars' fits into the forum rules? Especially a new member. Personally, I couldn’t care less, as I’ve been part of my fair share of heated debates that sometimes lead to name-calling. But it seems like other members have been penalized for much, much less. I’m just curious if the rules are being applied consistently, or if some users are exempt. Will see.

a. Do not attack someone for a post they have made. Do not post anything about someone that you would not say to their face! If you have something negative to say about someone then contact them directly, DO NOT POST IT HERE! Do not post anything here that you would not want your grandmother or your daughter to read! THINK BEFORE YOU POST, USE COMMON COURTESY, AND BE NICE!

How many times have we looked and found properties which were the subject of some controversy and discussed the properties and the appraisal situation? In what way is this situation any different?

HE posts publicly, and HE chose to discuss this example. The name on the ownership @ the County doesn't match the name he uses publicly. Nobody here has any way of knowing if his comment about it being his property is even true. If he hadn't even said anything in his post here - again, an action that HE made - we'd still all be clueless as to the possibility. Nobody would be connecting those dots.

The first time he posted was this morning.

So I'm in breach of the Karen Rule. Report me. That doesn't alter the facts of the situation. A professional appraiser would have to be an idiot to believe that TAFs role is to advocate for the business interests of fee appraisers. And if they knew better but were accusing otherwise that deliberate untruth becomes a lie.

Which brings us to you. Do you think TAFs role extends beyond appraisal standards and appraiser qualifications and into the business interests of SFR appraisers? Because if you do that puts you on shakey ground WRT saying I must respect his authoritah.
