Does your appraisal business have a website?

Yes - Just create a GoogleMyBusiness listing and redirect your domain to it. It's basic - but that's all you need, in all honesty. If you have good reviews - it is my understanding google will show your business in the 1st top 3 listings for the area the consumer is searching for an appraiser. My leads are the same when I have a full total website. Focus on google review and real estate agents referrals and you will be fine.

I have one through my software (Total)
I'll be the first to say, it's not the greatest, mostly because I've never really worked on it/done anything with it. But I do get 1+/yr assignments out of it so it more than "pays for itself"
This.

Had the same boring wintotal site for many years with no ROI. I have a simple site made on squared space.
www.skyline-miami.com let me know what you think.
I like the simple design, very nice.

just some small things i noticed
- clicking on learn more loads the home page again
- the luxury condos section needs reworded
- appraisal review section the word check should not be capitalized, also, i am a fan of the oxford comma
- in areas of practice the word Miami has a capital letter i
- you refer to your company as a firm and team, but, under Our Team, there is only one person. I know this is common practice, just something that bugs me since one person is not plural.

Got my website through Wayne years ago, because I'm not a traitor to the Forum.

If you are a sole proprietor or a 2-4 appraiser shop, there is absolutely no reason to have a website or google listing. You will just get reviews from the people who are pissed off. If you want to be the next CBRE, then get a website.

For the love of god, get a personalized email. It's only ~$6/mo from google. My jaw drops when I see "unclemarkappraiser@yahoo.com" on the signature page.

I am currently a sole proprietor and used to have a trainee. I have a minimal web site and have actually received a few private clients at good fees from my web site alone. Never received bad reviews, although I don’t think the site allows reviews. Its a must for any business, sole proprietor or not.

I have a domain name XYZcountyappraiser.com. and a gmail account of xyzcountyappraiser@gmail.com. I honestly have been too busy to work those much the last 2 years, but have every intention on beefing up the website to start diversifying my practice some this year, as I do think this ample harvest of late will not last forever.

I think business cards handed out in abundance with this info on it all works together well. Its like a plumber. You never need one til you need one, but when you do, unless your family member/friend is a plumber, you will go with one that has ANY semblance of a recommendation, even just a business card. With a good website on that card, maybe that need will turn into an order.

The other thing to consider is direct advertising--is there a niche you could fill in your market, such as some short-form pre-listing appraisal for a reduced fee, that could generate some business? Heck, go door to door with special business cards that say you specialize in valuing homes in that neighborhood. Create 50 different business cards for each area you want to cover. Leave them on people's doors, and if they are in the yard, talk to them. I do recommend cash up front always on private work, for obvious reasons.

It is easy to rely on lender work when it is abundant, but I think we would all do well to start thinking about how to keep a leg up on the competition should times change...it is also worth considering the question: "Yes things are good now, but could I be making even more money somehow doing valuations?" It is worth thinking about.

I took down my website but keep the domain for email. I may bring back a web site down the road once I get going on the next phase of business plan. For now those that need to contact me know how to reach me.

I don't want anybody contacting me because they found me on the internet or found me on some list.
