Accounting Tweak Could Save Fed From Losses

The change essentially allows the FED to denote losses by the various regional reserve banks that make up the FED system as a liability to the U.S. Treasury rather than a hit to its capital.

It means the FED can never go broke since the U.S. Treasury is taking the hit. The losses on its massive bond holdings will never create insolvency because the taxpayer - aka U.S. Treasury - is on the hook for those losses.

And remember, the FED is 13 private banks - now with the full protection and bail out from the U.S. Treasury.
