I Was In Error. Apparently There Is A 12th Member Of The Illinois 'appraisal Board'

Geez, Tim, take it easy already. Lee's effort was to alert, and we've been alerted. I've reached the age where I don't have to partially unwrap the Christmas gifts to see if I can catch a glimpse before Christmas morning.

I admit my anticipation, but have no problem with Lee giving the whole thing a little prep.

Dave...

Lee, are other members of the board aware of this? I will be speaking to one next week, and wonder what their take will be. Is this something that after I speak with them, you would be willing to discuss outside of this forum or in a private message? Or are we still to early in the process?

5 of the 10 members of the Board are new within the past 6 or so months. 2 others (non-appraiser members) have been on the Board approximately 1-year now. New and newer members--only due to their freshness in serving as I believe them all to be fine and honorable folks--may not understand what is happening because of the lack (again, not their fault) of perspective. So, I can't say with certainty who understands what. You might ask this member if there was a "suggestion" given to the member shortly before the nominations and voting for Chair and Vice-Chair during this past Tuesday's meeting.

I've been wondering where Steve Bannon would emerge, apparently its the IL Appraisal Board...

In fact, I did ask this member the very question. It appears that there may have been a suggestion, as they were a bit taken back and surprised when I asked them if they were given a heavy handed suggestion. They semi confirmed that was the case. It appears that, as usual, you were correct again. Looking forward to see what happens with this. This member seemed to be optimistic, but cautious.

What is, and has been, happening is an inappropriate effort to influence the Board--particularly what with so many new (within the past few months, 5 members; 2 others within a year or so) or newer members among a 10 voting member Board. Add to it that the person doing the influencing chose the members for appointment, well, it sort of places the members (IMHO) in a most difficult position.

Agreed.

Wow, I don’t suppose you could share any hints. I gather the influences might not be in some appraiser’s favor. I figure other appraisers might benefit. I hope I’m wrong.

It is inappropriate for a "higher-up" to try to act as a puppet-master over the members of the Board. There is more--the unavoidable and foreseeable result of the effort--but such is the effect and not the cause. I have great hope, given the high character and professionalism of the members of the Board, that this situation will eventually find its proper conclusion with the Board asserting itself.
