I Was In Error. Apparently There Is A 12th Member Of The Illinois 'appraisal Board'

Under what authority is this "12th board member" operating? What can we, as voters, citizens, appraisers do about this? Is there a way to bring this scandal to light?

The person is a part of the chain-of-command. Below, there is an 11-member Board (10 voting: 8 appraisers + a member from the banking community and another from the public at large; the 11th is the non-voting position of Appraisal Coordinator). Thus, look higher-up. If the Board allows, say, its meeting schedule (reserved for the Board to decide; has to meet a certain number of times) to be decided by another, well...that's allowing your responsibility to be take away from you. The larger problem (IMHO) is the influence that one can wield over others. To do: Be aware and continue to observe.

If you read my post #s 17, 33, 36, 40, 53, 56, this should bring you up to speed. [edit to include the suggestion to re-read post #81]

The appraisal board in IL has always been captured by "special interests". The only question has been which side of the special interest you fall.

The board must have an attorney that answers to the State attorney general or Governor.

That would be my first contact by email or phone call. They put their pants on just like you.

You might be surprised how much people like the Governor care.

Secretary of State would be my next stop if needed. Don’t bother the Governor. Lol

The matter is solvable by the folks who are directly involved and have a face-to-face relationship. I want to make certain that others here in IL--with interest in the profession and the doings of the Board--have awareness (many already do) and, perhaps, that the participants themselves become aware of the view from the outside.

Yes. Absolutely. The public which includes us all deserve it. The market structure is screwed in relation to public trust.

No "special interests", but, "merely" that one individual--the Director--has a heavy thumb firmly over the Board.

Going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing this person would be K.A.

Not trying to be a downer here, but the truth is that I haven't any idea what to do as a result of this thread, or what it will mean to me/us, eventually.

This is Illinois.

There is nothing to do on the outside other than to be aware and see what comes.
