Irma Doesn't Look Good

We are staying and as prepared as we can be, shuttered, first aid, food, water, and lots of etc. too. We're in Broward next to the Everglades at I-75 (Weston). The City of Weston is hardened for this and IF we're 20+ miles from the eye can be back up and running on Monday or Tuesday as long as the Florida State grid holds out and we keep our office roof. Lots of reports to get out next week, and a couple of them are fairly complex. I'm "never" late without cause.

But we're right in the path so it's 50/50 (we will or we won't), and worried that if it heads up through the Everglades park it may gain strength. I am sorry, but we'd much prefer it chew through west Miami-Dade first and calm down a little before it gets here. I'm hoping some of our friends get hit rather than us... that sucks.

.

I know exactly where you are and those Weston homes were built well so you should do OK. Staying put is probably wise. Your friends are gonna get hit alright and so are mine. But So Fla folks who've been through this before will just buy supplies and deal with it. Most I know are just gonna hunker down like we did when Andrew blew through.

I dunno know about anyone getting out of South Florida now - it would be foolish. Its too late and will be nearly impossible. There will be no where to run or hide within the state as this Hurricane is going to take out the entire state in one fell swoop. The highways being grid locked (many already are bumper to bumper - people thought they could run from East to West Coast to get away) is one thing but getting enough gas is another matter all together. Even the most economical vehicle will take at least a tank and half to make it to to the largest northern city - Jacksonville and there ain't gonna be any gas (regardless of what Scott says) available here either until after the storm passes as the ships are able to make deliveries

It don't look good for Miami at all right now. It can still shift a little west or east. I wonder how many people have run out of gas or food or medicine trying to get out already.

No it doesn't Eli but it doesn't look any better for the west coast either. The distance between Miami/Ft Lauderdale and Naples/Ft Meyers is only about 200 miles via 75 and this this Hurricane is in excess of 400 miles. NO PLACE IS SAFE or immune from this monster in So Fl or elsewhere in the state. The Mayor of Naples has not yet issued evacuation orders (exception being waterfront flood area) - his reasoning is that there are 300,000 people in Collier County with no where to go because there are not enough hotels, motels etc to accommodate them up the state. The northbound lanes heading out of Fl are already grid locked. There's no ice, gas or food available at the exits along the way. The roads are gridlocked headed to to Atlanta.

Right now in Miami/Dade/Ft. Lauderdale there is not a bottle of water or loaf of bread to be found on any store shelf. So says my friends and family.

Or in 'lil ole Citrus County. Tanks and shelves are bare. I always keep plenty of food and fuel around so I just go out for fresh produce. If I need bread I'll make it. #lost skills.
