USPAP 7 hours ONLINE--REDICULOUS---

I took mine from McKissock last year, didn't have any problems.

TC,

This new style did not start until 1-1-2010, and it is the same no matter what online provider one takes it from.

I have sat next to people who were sending texts or drawing the entire three days or working on their laptop doing reports and never asked one question in three days of class.

Not in my classes. I stand next to them until they stop. Same for talking, reading other material, etc.

Why is there no test for 30 hours of class room CE?

Good question. Answer is, because some states will not allow a test for CE.

Just my opinion. Jim Hill

Hope this answers some of your points Jim. Also, I just did a 2 hour class for 30+ Realtors. Had one who wanted to steal the show and "go chasing rabbits" and talk on and on about her problems. She did not like it when I cut her off at the knees and took control.

I control my classroom.

It's a shame that Mr. Garrett did not control his Alpha classes like you do, Don.

Well, if I was in charge, I would have the course info emailed to me, study the info, go to the "live" course and take an exam. If I pass, I can leave, no 7 hours of sitting.

We have a system that is based on hours. Is that appropriate? I don't really think so, but that is the system we have. The new requirements certainly increase the time it takes to finish, no matter how well you know the material.

The instructor recertification course is set up the same way. As one who closely follows what the ASB does and keeps up with changes as they happen, I found it frustrating. That said, I understand why they are doing it that way. The data says that such a system works - and it probably does for a large percentage. For some, its just irritating.

I am an instructor for an online course in the IVS/IVSC. Most are not familiar with the history and structure of the IVSC. So, the material is new to most students. I am amazed at how many fail the quiz for Lesson 1 just a few minutes after they register for the course. It is pretty clear that they have not had time to read the material - they just went to the quiz and started guessing.

Online education can be great, but it can also be abused if it doesn't have good checks and balances. We have the new online USPAP course with its new requirements for the same reason we have the 1004MC form. We all have to pay for those who abuse the system. :)

As mentioned with prior posts, live classroom training can be abused just the same. With any education, the student can get out of it what they want, it is up to the student on how much they wish to learn.

They keep applying fixes to appraisal problems by focusing only on the appraiser. They keep focusing on symptoms and not the root cause. The real problem is that the free market does not get rid of the less than professional. Most other professions, the bums are run out of that business asap. But with appraisers, the clients insist on treating us all the same, like widgets. That is why we have to keep paying for the worst among us.

The real and only fix is to focus on the clients, and to get rid of the reasons why they do not hire appraisers based on quality. As long as there is profit in writing toxic loans, there will be a desire to treat appraisers all the same, and hire based on the cheapest and fastest rubber stamp, instead of quality.

Every damned appraisal fix has the goal of equalizing us by bringing the less than professional up to standards, but no profession has "equal" members, all have good, average and bad. The real way to fix things is to hire and work only with those who are average or better, and leave those who are less than professional so that they move onto something else.

Do you think that since our fees have been cut in half we should only be required to take 14 hours a cycle?

Does this mean that all of the online USPAP classes will be the "spacebar" hitting kind?

I was curious as to *which* provider the OP was referring to... so I knew who to avoid if necessary.

I was fortunate to take a live USPAP class from an excellent AI instructor so I won't have to do it online, but it would be good to know who the bad ones are.

Good to know, I'll probably go live in that case.

Is this just for USPAP, or all online classwork?
