USPAP 7 hours ONLINE--REDICULOUS---

I took mine from McKissock last year, didn't have any problems.

The 2010 7-hr. distance education version has to meet entirely different standards than the 2008 version.

Meaning you can't take it on line anymore? It's showing up on McKissock in the PA section.

No, I'm not saying that and I'm not speaking to the quality or delivery method of any specific provider's program. The AQB published different, more rigid requirements for the 2010 on-line version that all providers must meet. If I recall this correctly (and it's all a matter of record for anyone who wants to look up the specifics) the AQB, working with a specific education provider, developed a distance education version of the 7-hr. USPAP update. Other providers are free to develop equivalent offerings but must meet these more rigid standards.

So my point is that what you experienced with any given provider last year my not be representative of what you will see this year. I don't which provider the OP used, but I suspect that similar timing devices and testing procedures may appear in more than one provider's offering.

I don't see how difficult (tough questions) a USPAP course can be.
You need to get out more often Denis :rof:
I do not know anybody who has admitted to that
I had a sales agent tell me she took their on line CE for her broker. So it's certainly not out of the question for Skippy to do likewise.

Unfortunately, to cut expenses a lot of people are avoiding the live classroom. We have a local group that is trying to give cheap education locally. A $100 class is not adequate compensation for the instructor if there isn't at least 20 people by the time you get a room, provide food (usually), snacks, etc. and printed class materials. The USPAP course, in particular, is expensive. The book is expensive. The class is expensive to teach and the teacher has to cough up several hundred dollars simply to qualify. But for the student, you lose the time, and if the class is more than 90 miles away, it is a real hassle. For some remote areas it makes sense to hire an instructor to come to you even if there is only 4 or 5 students. Saves time and gas.

I avoid the live classrooms because of the predictable degeneration into horror stories, and the inevitable guys/gals with the never ending "what-if" questions that ARE stupid questions. I loved a forms update course where they argued for 20 min about how there was a space for car storage: none. Until I pointed out that in Urban areas (which we are not) there may be no on site car storage, street parking only. They never lived in the city and could not comprehend how there would not be a garage or drive.

I'll take the onlines.

Home vs Online.

Does anyone know if there is any HOME class offering for CA.....

Since change was JANUARY 2010 you guys will figure this out if you are an ONLINE USPAP class taker.

I don't think it is MONEY that makes us take ONLINE over IN CLASS.

I have taken both but often PROBLEM is I don't have the time take off, I just NEED 14 more hours, I only have 3 more WEEKS for it, and I live in another state and it is impossible to get to other state for that live class.

I heard from the school provider that ONLY THE USPAP is rat space-bar pushing....FYI......... (not other classes)

But darn it that is what I need.

For starters, go to appraisalinstitute.org and click on the education tab. Their classroom seminars are typically approved in all of the jurisdictions, so you can take a seminar in whatever state you happen to be and get CA credit. You can also check out their distance education offerings as well. Sign up for the Manufactured Housing on-line offering if it interests you. I wrote it and I'll get a few bucks if you take it :)

Wow, those are the scenarios in which I gain most knowledge in classes. I must be blessed in that the Appraisers in the Eastern Mass area aren't retarded as the appraisers seem to be in your area.

Here in the great state of PA, most appraisers hold a broker/sales license to obtain MLS info and have two licenses. While I enjoy taking live classes for appraisal CE, I avoid live real estate CE like the plague. I always take that CE on line.

It's all kind of nuts to me.

Taking CE on line means passing some type of test and reading the material but if I take 30 hours of class room CE there is no test just AIS and I think most of you know what that means.

I have always thought that if you pay your money you should get something out of the class you are taking. I ask questions because I am interested in getting something out of the class I am taking and I want to learn more then I did when I entered the class.

I have sat next to people who were sending texts or drawing the entire three days or working on their laptop doing reports and never asked one question in three days of class.

Why is there no test for 30 hours of class room CE?

Just my opinion. Jim Hill
