Walked away mid-inspection/vent

I would have accomodated the home owner. I understand routines I am same way, but I won't miss rooms or some how not be able to draw the house if I saw the inside first.
If they were A holes and you walked that is one thing but if they just asked and you gave them the "no this is the way I do it", I dont' get it. TJ is right, last time you would work for us.

If their attitude was about me taking my shoes off for the inspection. I would agree with you. But this is about attitude regarding how I run my practice, maintain my accuracy and limit unnecessary liability issues. If you were a client who took issue with this, you would no longer receive my professional service.

MRB,
Here's a suggestion. When you call to make the appointment you could tell the HO that you will be doing the exterior first, no exceptions, you need to do that so you won't miss any rooms and you don't accommodate a newborn's sleeping schedule. You could also tell them you don't weed gardens or clean gutters like half of the appraisers do.

I specifically reserved 45 minutes as they asked how long it would take. You run your business and I will run mine.

mrb, I just don't understand how the request could have some how increased liability or made you less accurate. But to each his own I suppose.

"I can assure you that I had no intention of being either harsh or cruel in my treatment of the... soldier in question. My sole purpose was to try to restore in him some sense of appreciation of his obligations as a man and as a soldier. "If one could shame a coward," I felt, "one might help him to regain his self-respect." This was on my mind. Now, I freely admit that my method was wrong, but I hope you can understand my motive. And that you will accept this explanation... and this... apology." ---General George S. Patton

Understandable. Doing interiors first have caused me to miss things at first glance in the past. Lesson learned. This was a 3000 to 4000sf 100yr+ Victorian multi. Maybe a different animal than you're envisioning.

Someone in that war once said, When you are in command....COMMAND! :D

You did the right thing, situations like these you got to go with your gut instinct about the situation. There are other assignments for you and other appraisers that can take this one and everyone is happy and life goes on.

It probably wasn't worth the stress after getting off to an uncomfortable start. You did the right thing.

Thanks. I'm a bit surprised how many people actually think otherwise but it boils down to hostile HO, my signature and a handful of declined orders to start the week due to capacity.
