Wild Fires In LA

Not exactly, salt water can go more damage than good and not just to the equipment (hoses, trucks, planes, helicopters, ect). Salt is corrosive and the salt has to go somewhere....meaning it could damage vegetation, fresh water sources where the run off eventually will end up, streets, walks, ect.
To a minor degree. Florida often has deep flood water from the ocean that extends miles inland but the vegetation, freshwater sources, run off, etc. all seem to survive with damage that can only be considered negligible compared to the damage from the hurricanes.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice replaceable items to save lives besides, the cost of all of the planes, helicopters, trucks, etc. is little more than a rounding error compared to the $50-$100 Billion in damage that this fire has caused and continues to cause.

CA has prioritized "social justice" and endangered species over the safety and lives of its citizens and now they're paying the piper. I'm sure some of the LW out there and on this forum will try to find a way to blame Trump but the libs with any common sense are realizing how dangerous some of their sacred cow programs are to the people the claim to want to protect. Maybe they'll start to understand that elections have consequences and continuing to elect incompetent libs to positions of importance is destroying their state, doubtful but maybe.

And to our favorite FL LW TDS infected mouthpiece, have you noticed how, with every hurricane, DeSantis is blamed by the lib media but they have been eerily silent about exposing Newsome's utter incompetence? No, they wouldn't want to expose that fool's incompetence to the world, not when they plan to run him for president in a couple of years.

was this suposed to be a spoof of NPR? I have a sense of humor, but still don't get how postinggarbage during a tragedy is funny-we laugh about different things. If the fir chief were a white male and the exact same events of wildfire spread occurred, would you post a video mocking him ?

We need two threads;

One about the Fires.

One for the RW folks to post mockery, cartoonish videos, dump on democrats, blame it on DEI and spread fake news - which is the same content they post anyway, and about anything

My apologies to anyone who is experiencing loss from the fire; it is an embarrassment to witness some of the responses here.

Good god, you are truly ignorant of the situation

That's part of life. Get over it....

Agree, saving lives, homes, ect. comes first.

My point was/ is that saltwater does/ can do extreme damage and that is why its use is avoided, if possible. Also, Florida has hundreds of treatment plants to desalinate and minimize this problem, which is why, as you state, they have "minimal " effects.

Since CA has not seen fit or is not able to put similar programs in place, adapting the Israeli technology to store up fresh water for these wild fires is an alternative.

Florida recognizes and plans for these inevitable disasters.

About 7% of the population identifies as gay. When you have the two top firefighters both lesbians, then they were not chosen because they were the best TWO candidates, except about 1 in 100 chances, rather they were the best lesbian candidates available. And for firefighters it's really even less chance. The vast majority of firefighters were traditionally and still are, white men. Therefore, almost without any chance it being otherwise, these women were chosen over better qualified MEN to lead the department. This speaks of the desire to hire 'persons of color' and 'non-straight' people in leadership without serious regard to anything but lip service about their qualifications.

Further, when the emphasis in hiring is to diversify so that the person responding to the call (fire, police) 'looks like the community they serve' - WTF difference does that make? If I am laying in wreck, do you think I am going to reject that black EMT that arrives and say, "No thanks. I will wait for a white guy." What kind of morons are we?

There are way too many videos of women police being mauled by men when trying to subdue a criminal. Face it. Women are not physical creatures like men. Not that some are not tough. Not that some are not big. Not that there are not weak men. But by and large men are better equipped to struggle with dope heads and criminals. Just watched a video where it took two men to take down a drunk woman fighting them. I doubt two women of average statute would have managed to get the job done without using deadly force. Saying a woman is "brave and strong" is not the same as saying a woman is just as strong as a man of similar height and weight.

Then we have the utter nonsense Biden is trying to jam down Title 9...to allow men identifying as women the right to be in women's sport. We are not talking about anything but an intact male claiming to be a woman. Even the old Egyptian Pharaohs recognized that eunuchs were physically stronger even though a eunuch had lost both his testicles and *****. Yeah, you were cut smooth, and the older you were the less likely you survived the operation. About one-third or more died.

When you create an entire city structure based upon an equal outcome for all - you deny the city of the best police and fire protection available. When you mandate a governor the money to do better, but he doesn't spend the money doing the things fire experts beg him to, when the mayor is off in Africa meeting a new president of a country she couldn't even find on a blank map (nor could I) you have a city neglected by someone well paid to serve that very city, and, when every insurer in the US is telling you that they cannot subsize the huge losses due to failed state policies, then you have a state out of control.

I guess I'm curious how desalination plants for drinking water minimizes the environmental effect of the salt water from massive hurricane flooding.

Most of FL desalination plants are used to purify 'brackish' water. This is groundwater from sources near the ocean that has a small amount of saltwater intrusion. Most are not used to desalinate sea water.

Thank you and your buddies for hijacking and politicizing this thread.

Being not PC did not help prevent what happened in NC during Hurricane Helene.

I am not a fan of hiring anybody who is less competent for DEI or any other reason.
On the other hand, a number of white men turn out to be incompetent in their job or a leadership role or are corrupt, and we see the bad outcome from it numerous times. Yet nobody accuses them of being hired for favoritism, yet they might have been.

Yea I'm against hiring based on the color of ones skin regardless of which way it goes. I will say that bragging about hiring someone because they are black or hispanic and hiring someone because they are white gets a totally different reaction. One gets celebrated, the other gets prosecuted.

The "misinformation storm" is spreading like a wildfire.

That is ridiculous, but we can hold different views. And believing it was "persecution" seems to be an excuse now for unleashing your own persecution.

Again, I think DEI has gone too far. But some of it was needed - white privilege (I am a white female) is so ingrained that white people assume they are always hired on merit, but they/we, too, are hired for a skin color preference - and triple that preference for being a white male. Over the past four years, that shifted a bit, and hey had a taste for the first time, of what it was like to stand in line with everybody else, and they hated it, thus the vitriolic backlash.

Things needed to be re-balanced, and their view prevailed in this election, but they can't stop. Here it is, on thread about a national disaster and tragedy, they are ranting away, not letting it go, mocking any minority who was hired whether true or not, for being incompetent and a DEI hire, and other ugliness.

Sometimes, it seems like the RW white males and their female peers have become professional victims and seem to relish the role.

I can predict that if they continue like that, it will get its own backlash and erase all the progress they made at clawing their way back into a rebalance.
