It was a combination of the 2 previus years being wet which allowed for a lot of undergrowth, followed by this year's lack of rain and the strongest Santa Ana winds in a long time. Plus when the fire dept. budget was cut, prevention fell behind. Usually there is some effort to clear the underbrush to keep fires from getting out of control. Because there are fires every year and there are Santa Anas every year.I read the Santa Anna winds reached 80 MPH yesterday
Am sure the winds and lack of rain had more to do with the fires than DEI.
Very sad, fires are so terrifying. The amazing part is that so few people lose their lives.
