Wild Fires In LA

I assume there will be disaster appraisals, what was it worth before what is it worth now
The downside is usually, after a natural disaster, insurance companies don;t write new policies for X months and lenders can also put a halt on lending for X months.,

I read that displaced animals are filling the shelters and need foster homes.

It is terrible for the people and loss of community, the loss of habitat and wildlife is especially awful -the wild creatures lost their homes too

I'm not sure about the City, but the County has had an expedited approval process for rebuilding on properties that were burned out. I don't recall the City experiencing multi-dozen losses from wildfires before, but this one might prompt them to expedite rebuilds, too.

First, they gots to demo/haul off the leftovers. Some of the contractors are going to be all over that.

Fires scare the crap out of me.

Hurricanes often have more loss of life, but at least with a hurricane, there is a warning usually a week or more out, and you can prepare. These fires erupt so suddenly and spread so fast. I always thought the worst way to die was burning to death. I hope anyone who experienced it lost consciousness fast and did not feel it -

Firefighters are the ultimate brave heroes. With so many selfish people out there, it gets discouraging, then they show up and put themselves at risk.

Water at the hydrants may/may not have room for improvement. There's no reason to assume the system could service dozens of pumpers at the same time without exceeding the max capacity. As for the rest of the complaints I don't think it reasonable to hold the politicians responsible for most of them.

I don't know, but my uninformed guess is that if we ask the fire depts they'll probably say they always asked for more capacity despite never previously maxing the existing system but there was never enough budget to add or maintain the additional capacity. It's like asking the law enforcement agencies and the jailers if they had enough resources - the answer to that is always "not now, not ever" despite their obvious struggles.

Public safety is already the most expensive budget item. Saying we deserve more is great, but that's not the same thing as saying we're willing to pay more for it.

Posts 36 and 37 - you folks don't; know when to stop. Even a ten-year-old would not be that ghoulish and crass. Who raised you? Not anyone human it seems,.

I don;t care if you say I have no sense of humor. Idk what is funny about mocking people's suffering especially in real time as it is happening. Some of the people losing their lives and their nights might be Republicans, btw since that is all that seems to matter. I suppose these posters want democrats to die or think it is funny when they do, in a fire or otherwise.

Expert on the news says it will take 3 to 5 years to rebuilt with all the permit red tape.

Many had NO fire insurance.

Similarly, here, a large number of people are uninsured. Those with substantial equity often turn to private financing as a way to avoid relying on insurance
