Wild Fires In LA

Newsome is saying he is going to "streamline" the rebuilding process. Wonder if he is going to require all of these new home to have solar panels.
That would be one way to cut down on the "overhead power line" risk. Elon would love to sell them some batteries to hook them up to as well. Now, if they could all just do without "air conditioning" they would be in business.

Have all the lefties left the country and this blog. Someone jump in here and help J Grant shore up dem comments that are sent to their robots. Not that you are a dem bot J Grant, or that's there anything wrong being a parrot for the left. But i can now almost write your comment to a reply before you type it.
Logically speaking, if the fires started in the very affluent area of Pacific Palisades where the average or median (I dunno) value of a home WAS $4.2 million, what percentage of undocumented folks are likely to be residing in most of those homes setting off masses of illegal fireworks? I suspect not very many. Not withstanding, there is a whole lot of stupid everywhere, and just because someone is rich and/or famous, they can also do something stupid, dangerous or arsonine. But I would betcha, there were fewer illegal fireworks going off in Pacific Palisades and Brentwood etc than in the cheap seats.

But the common denominator EVERYWHERE, high-price or low-price neighborhoods, is electricity and as some very hilly canyon areas bring a higher value for their scenic views, they often lack underground utilities, so wires are strung overhead. Brentwood is rolling hills, Altadena has steep hills, canyons, and is in the mountain foothills. Pacific Palisades runs from steep hills and canyons down to the sea. Very hilly topography is the common thread for the hard-to-control fires that cover massive areas of terrain. Those fires are logistically hard to get to and fight, so the cinders flow freely, especially in the winds which the heat of the fires exacerbates. Historically, you're much safer from fires out here on more level ground.

All the folks in a huge area, rich, poor, foreign and domestic are suffering. Many have lost all their belongings, even their Emmy's and Oscars, their pickup trucks and Maserati's. It's an equal opportunity disaster of monumental proportions with death toll rising. The universal heartbreak of the fire victims has no ethnicity.

they often lack underground utilities
Depending upon load, there is a real problem with underground utilities. Overheating. Further any issue will require digging a line up. Stronger poles and wires being further apart will help. Interestingly, even lightning will strike underground wires.
the electrical current from a nearby strike can travel through the ground and induce voltage within the buried cables, potentially causing damage to the wiring; this is especially true for cables running through conductive soil or near water sources.

If the electrical poles were burned out then they're going to have to refit anyway. The city will get sued if they go above ground and another fire happens.

They're going to get sued anyway. The lawyers are circling like sharks around a fat surfer.
