Okay, this is my point. Disagree and do nothing/Still disagree and do something. At least he is doing something. I agree that doing something is better.

We can sit and debate forever and laws will be passed and opportunities will pass. This will get things going.

Our precious credibility, well that has been lost long ago. Every lender speaking to congress, every owner of an AMC speaking to congress, every developer of an AVM has seen to that. Our credibility has been being undermined for a long time. Read the news, appraisers are getting slammed all the time.

Maybe this will help us.

If by "rewrite" you mean to completely drop all references that are primarily self serving
If by "rewrite" you mean to retain all of the narrow references but restate them
I am not sure anyone can just tinker around the edges. The problem is going to be the core concept: killing off one form of free enterprise while preserving another that is virtually indistinguishable. Anyone want to take a stab at writing the definitions and sentences that would outlaw so-called "AMC's," while preserving supervisor-associate (eg mentor-trainee) relationships.

I don't agree that this "something" is better. There are few situations where any type of action is automatically better than inaction...and this isn't one of them.

I'm sure what you meant to say was "in your opinion, this isn't one of them".

Any appraisers I have spoken to, and there are a fair number, thinks differently and supports it.

But okay, you have stated your opinion and of course you are welcome to sign it or not.

Don't for one minute think that because we won't sign this whining diatribe means we're doing nothing. I work every day to help improve my profession - from trying to educate comp checkers to turning in fraud.

Perhaps that is why I started my comments with "I don't agree":icon_wink:

You are also free to sign it or not.

I'm sure you do a lot, all of you. Didn't mean to imply you didn't. I've always had the idea that the forum people are pretty active about this stuff. They sure argue enough. (And about anything at all LOL)

Anyhow, I'm out of here - got things to do.

Hope you had a good christmas and hope you all have a great new year.

Ok already...TODAY in New York the Banking Department passed a law targeting mortgage fraud in home lending. As of 1/1/2008 ALL bankers, brokers/loan officers doing biz in NYS need to register, AND complete a "huge" ha ha, 18 hours of course work, including ethics...AND go through a criminal background check. (Grandfathered LO's have till 7/1/2008) They will not have a license like us, just be "registered". Idea is ....they can't open shops or work in shops in other states if they have had ...??? complaints placed upon them. Great Step For Appraiser Kind.

Staying current helps.

If H.R.3837 gets passed, that's it. Our choices are going to be over in the matter. He is trying to do something about that too. I think that while we can make a choice, we should. I don't want someone else doing that for me, especially when that someone has way more to gain than I, and I may have a lot to lose.
I can guarantee you, HR3837 will never be passed. The chance is zero. It is hard to take seriously comments that display a blatant lack of knowledge on what is before congress.

The bill is HR3915. What was once known as HR3837 died when it's language was adopted into HR3915 as an amendment. The bill is currently in a Senate committee. There are many relatively easy ways to keep tract of legislation. Those who feel strongly either way on the subject would do well to keep current. You don't want people to dismiss a valid argument because you used the wrong bill number.
