Going back to the gym

I went back to the gym in early June when they re-opened after being shut down for 14 weeks. Actually our gym is fairly empty, many days there are only a dozen or so people there and it is a huge gym (the building used to be a chain grocery store). Everyone wears a mask, everyone has a spray bottle to disinfect equipment before and after use. They clean the place twice daily. With each week more and more people are coming back, so there are more people now than in June when they first opened. I work out early in the morning, so probably why it is not crowded when I am there. People are good at keeping proper distancing while there, if they venture too close I will just spray them with my spray bottle (haha). I just lift weights while there, I always have done my aerobics outside, as I run in the evenings out doors, those machines are way too boring for me. I feel safer in the gym than most of the grocery stores I have been in.

My gym has very high ceilings and very spacious. Other gymnasts do clean up and wipe.
Since I haven't regularly gone to the gym, I finally weighed myself and I've gained 4 pounds prior to the pandemic.
I go to the gym once a week trying to minimize going there and each time I come back, my muscles sore few days later.

I've been going to the gym regularly, going at time with fewer people and social distancing and wearing a mask over N95 mask.
I lost 4 pounds. :dancefool:

Yesterday in the gym, I saw at least 5 people wearing their masks wrong. They didn't cover their nose. That defeats the purpose of wearing masks.
Got me worry of safety in the gym.

Today was my last day in the gym.:(
The shutdown begins again. It was good while it lasted.
At least my new massage chair be coming in next week.:)

I have an auto immune condition. So, even though my gym has reopened, I am not going to the gym right now.

Because of my condition, catching COVID-19 could/would be very bad for me. So, I have been working on my cardiovascular fitness. But I have been doing that on the local greenways and at home, not at the gym. When we went all remote back in early March I was running about 4 miles a day. Over the last three months I have gradually increased the distance to the point that I am now doing a 10K to start most mornings. I also put a treadmill right next to my desk, and I get in several walks a day as well.
Good choice. Cardio is more important anyway.

Wiping the equipment down is only a fraction of the potential problem at the gym. The bigger problem is the respiratory droplets from heavy breathers in an area with minimal air flow. Everybody is breathing heavy in a gym. IMO they are the most hazardous places. You are really wearing an N95 mask? If so, you will be minimizing the risk.

Go for a run, bike, follow a youtube workout video, stay outside... but I understand the difficulty in staying in shape right now.
Cannot agree more with my ever evolving knowledge of C-19.

Probably not gonna do what has been an annual trip back east to visit my Grandkids. And their parents.
Flying became the suck before the virus, now it's worse.
Driving 1600 miles one way is a long and boring road that leads to their door, with multiple motels along the way. :cautious:
Road trips are awesome though if you have the time and if you can finagle a co pilot at all...

I finally bit the bullet and bought a weight set from Les Mills and a gravel bike. I've been doing P90x, Zwift, group rides and some running. I miss the gym but I like the on-demand nature of home workouts. When this is over I may go back but I might switch to something more social like Orange Theory or Crossfit. I can replace the workouts, I can't replace the social interaction and community.

I missed the gym. I don't have discipline to walk out at home. I think I gained back my weight.
Few weeks ago, I went to the gym almost every other day knowing inevitable it was going to shut down again.
On one day I also had a haircut before that closed down. The barber was cutting my hair and the comb touched my eyeball.
I was scared and next day I had this sore throat. I was worry. I had a sore throat before and it was due to eating nuts.
I tried to cough out whatever nut was stuck in my throat but nothing came out.
I hate the feeling of a sore throat. In five days, I finally coughed out something and I was relieved of the sore free throat.
I got to stay away from the nuts.
