If you don't have a gun yet, better get one

How can one state impose its laws upon another? Is there some overriding federal law at play?
The State of Oregon only imposes this law on its citizens (subjects). For several years now Oregon gun stores have had signs up that state "No Sales to California Residences" because they don't want to run afoul of California law.

But you said an OR citizen couldn't buy a gun out of state...or did I read it wrong?

Our local stores won't sell semi-auto long guns to people visiting from California or Washington. I suspect that stores in other states will treat Oregonians who are visiting the same way after December 7th.

The current Oregon law:

Apparently we could only purchase from "Adjacent" states. So if I visit relatives in Arizona or Texas and buy privately from them I am violating Federal and State law. Federal because of the whole

Of course criminals will still continue to trade firearms and extended magazines for cash or drugs in Oregon after December 7th.

I'd show you the picture of the gang member who was arrested with this stolen gun, but I can't because the Oregon Democrats made it illegal for the police to publish mugshots.

Buying and transferring firearms from one state to another brings a whole host of Fed laws. Generally, if you buy a gun and you are not a resident of that state, the gun has to be shipped to a FFL in your state and the FFL holder is responsible for ensuring your state laws are followed. So, yeah, a dealer in Idaho would have to ship the gun to an FFL in OR.

Chicago, Murder City, is always whining because their criminals often to come over to Indiana and get guns. They buy them thru their criminal network via straw purchasers. Occasionally, they arrest a Hoosier due to him/her buying 200-300 guns in a year, in itself no crime, but they catch them selling on the side without an FFL. In this state, unless you can't pass the instant background check, you can walk in and walk out 10 minutes later with any type of gun you want.

Depends - pistols yes. Long guns are mostly legal to sell to buyers from out of state. I have a friend with a FFL license and if I buy a registered gun, it goes to him. The big risk is it being stolen by the shipper - it happens pretty often. Many send the box out as "machine parts".

Here we can buy all the guns in private transactions we want. I have been avoiding store purchases as the ATF is now tracking buyers.

In Michigan it takes longer to fill out the application than it does to complete the background check.
AFT is driving dealers crazy. All these applications have to be in your handwriting or on a computer - but handwritten, any error - misspelling, etc. and the ATF can take the FFL license away. Forgot your middle initial - ditto. on and on. Make a mistake and start over. I did 3 on one transaction due to address issues. With a CCW permit here, the background check is very much instantaneous.

The Oregon firearm background check queue is now over 24,000.

The Oregon rules will be challenged in court. Ultimately, it will land in front of the Supreme Court. It will take years to settle. All Oregonians can do right now is pay attention to which officials promoted and supported what is, imo, an unconstitutional measure... and work to fire them.
