TC: Whadda mean no beer at the stadium. What will happen to the Iron City brewery? I still remember the ivy outfield walls at Forbes Field, and watching Roberto Clemente throw that line drive peg to home plate to gun out the runners by 5 feet. Got so that runners on 3rd base would hold up when he was catching the ball over his should running AWAY from the infield...

TC: Not meaning to steal the thread, but you commented on the Pirates' long-running losing skein. Obviously they're non-competitive largely because of the market demographics that precludes them from competing successfully against big market teams unlike other sports with salary caps and measures designed to level the playing field. Baseball appears to reflect free market dynamics but tends to create a competitive disparity. I can't get my arms around my feelings for this and wonder whether you or others care to comment. (The Dodgers are just figuring out the value of Joe Torre without a field full of perennial all stars.)

When I first started in the business I probably asked a lot of stupid questions - many of which were probably answered in text somewhere out there. In any new endeavor, you are unsure of yourself and want to verify even if you think you are right. As we all know, there aren’t too many black and white issues in appraising – hell most appraisers can’t agree on how to measure a house.

If you are an experienced appraiser and you are asking a stupid or easily researched question, you probably should find a new line of business.

I think this site is a great tool for appraisers and a wonderful resource for information. Most of the time I can search the site and find exactly what I am looking for. However, I do notice that a great number of threads turn from informative to bickering relatively quickly. I think there are too many posters who hijack threads and turn it into a personal war.

If you think a question is stupid, why respond? Move on to the next thread….

Good Point. Part of being a good 'researcher' is knowing you'll wade through a lot
of swamp to find what your looking for. Its not as entertaining as trying to find
something on youtube and getting lost looking at stupid/funny video for an hour.

The search function is really quite good for this message board script, I always have
to find last year's annual income survey and it takes me a few tries, on advanced
search you can set your parameters to be very specific or broad.

I have difficulty using the search function, however, I'm also not known for my patience, either. Sometimes I'm in a flaming hurry and sometimes I also want to see if others interpret someting the way I do. I mentioned in a thread yesterday that one of my trainees "googled" absorption rate analysis, while I was busy trying to look it up in a text book and he had the answer in a few seconds, while I was paging through a book.

I do notice that some of the posters expect perfection (on their terms) from everyone that posts here. However, some of the nice people actually ask a few questions of the person posting to clarify what they need to know. Isn't that part of what this forum is all about - helping each other?

Even though I am one of the "original" members of this forum, and have 15+ years of experience, I do often hesitate before asking a question because some of the answers are somewhat vicious and make me feel like a fool for asking.

What a heartwarming thread and a nice break from the usual venomous exchanges in here. For the first time in my adult lifetime,
I am really proud of my forum.

Judy nailed it! IMO it is difficult to perceive some responses from the members because the interpretation is usually derogatory yet they claim they were just joking.

Ask anyone here how they calculate a time / market adjustment and you will get umpteen different methods. You will even get scientific methods from a few. Sometimes I second guess myself when I hear all the possibilities. In the long run, I like hearing all of them- without the beatings to the OP.

:peace:

Answering questions is the very reason I post here. Answering the same question 20 or 30 times gets annoying.
Next time the question comes up, run away! :rof:

The forum really could be improved with a "common responses" feature. :rof:
